27 issues you will find when you create your own website

In today’s dynamic business culture, it is crucial for every company to establish an efficient system of storing data. Firms need to come up with cost effective ways of managing their information and incorporate processes which will combine speed and reliability. For this purpose, many firms are now switching to the practice of cloud computing.

What is cloud computing you may ask? In basic terms, cloud computing involves using a collection of remote servers over the internet to store and process data. The difference in value is that the data is not stored by the computer’s own hardware but is maintained by some other firm which has been paid to do so. For companies, cloud computing is a new and growing trend as it enables them to use the technology offered by specialized firms and reduces cyber security issues.

Cloud computing is however undesirable to many businesses and there are several firms out there who prefer to manage their own security systems. Likewise, many individuals also prefer designing their own website. Firms can put it on themselves to develop their own business sites.

However easy this might sound, there are many website issues which need to be overcome while building your own website:

PROGRAMMING THE HTML

Websites need specific HTML programming in order to even be of a basic type. HTML programming is often complex and the fancier the website gets, the harder the programming will be.

DISCONNECTED LINKS

Without professional guidance, a site might end up being unstructured. In this scenario, what often happens is that a customer might be looking for specific information and if the site has not been designed to maneuver throughout the net with proper links, the page might end up denying the customer that information and will force them to shift to other sites.

LACK OF TAG

When customers use search engines to look for pages, correctly designed websites with appropriate TAGS will work to place the website at the top of the search options. This is a technical process often overlooked by non-professionals. If a website is not optimized with a search engine, the customer will not even see the choice of the website for information.

INVESTED TIME

Building a functional, sophisticated website needs time and effort and businesses would be wise to hire specialized individuals rather than waste human resource. Businesses should focus on other aspects such as production, marketing, accounts, etc so not to hinder the development in these departments.

FIXING A MISTAKE

Once a major mistake is made in designing the website, it is very difficult to reverse the process and fix the mistake. The mistake might not be realized until much later and by then, repairing it might be expensive or even impossible.

REDESIGNING

A website needs to be constantly revamped in order to keep customers interested. Thus building a website is not a time-constrained process, it needs to be constantly evaluated and updated.

INSTALLING HYPERLINKS

A website needs to have distinct hyperlinks in order for customers to be able to switch to the information they are looking for quickly. In this case, a hyperlink must be easy to decipher. While building a website, many forget to either install hyperlinks or to make it the optimal size.

INCORRECT PAGINATION

Websites contain heaps of information and often need to be divided into several pages. Lack of pagination might end up making the website heavy & cluttered, reducing ease of navigation in the process.

TITLE TROUBLE

Many a times the title of a website is not give much thought to and firms end up titling the website as per their company name. Choosing the title correctly is crucial as the title is the first thing that will link the website to words put by customers in their search engines.

SEQUENCING

It is important to put all of the information in proper sequence so the visitor knows where to go from what. Putting relevant information next to each other is key to making an organized and hassle-free website and this process requires expertise and planning.

MEANS OF COMMUNICATION

Websites need to have some form of contact address or phone number so the visitor knows where to go for further information. This is a form of customer service which the customers value and need to be put in such a way that the visitor instantly knows where to go in case they want to contact the authorities.

INTEGRATED SEARCH BOX

Quick service is key to many individuals and websites must incorporate a search engine so the visitor can jump to the information they are looking for. Search boxes should be a priority to whoever is designing the website, not an aspect that is easy to establish.

REGISTRATION FORMS

For websites that require member registration, it must be made sure that the registration form is of optimal size, which means long enough to acquire all the information and short enough to keep the customer engaged.

MAINTAINING THE THEME

A website must be themed in a way that every page or function reminds the visitor of the overall theme of the source they are visiting. Incorporating this theme in every page or content is a creative and complex process.

REPLACING OLD LINKS

Websites might also contain links to other sites and often these sites might cease existing. In such cases these links need to be carefully vetted and replaced.

DEVICE OPTIMIZATION

Due to the wider use of devices such as smart phones and tablets, individuals will not be visiting the site from one particular device. So nowadays, websites need to be configured to make them viewable from any device chosen by the visitor.

MULTIPLE BROWSERS

Different search engines are programmed to display data in different ways. The audience will be visiting the website from many different browsers and the designer needs to make sure that every browser displays the website in the same way.

IMAGE CONFIGURATION

Keeping in mind the presence of multiple smart devices available to users, the website developer has to program the display of images in a way that every device shows the image in the optimal resolution.

BALANCING BETWEEN STATIC AND MOBILE ELEMENTS

A webpage needs to have the perfect balance between moving and still elements. If a website has too many moving elements it will create confusion and if it contains too many static elements, the viewer might feel bored.

DEVELOPING SECURITY

Just designing the site is not enough; the developer must also create security settings to save the site from being hacked. Information online is privy to cyber crime and the developers must secure their domain to keep out hackers.

SIMPLE OR COMPLEX

Designers must ensure that their site is the perfect mix of simple and complex. Extremely basic pages will not draw attention and extremely complex pages will discourage those who prefer simplicity. So designers need to structure the site in a way that it appeals to a larger proportion of people and can satisfy their cognitive needs.

USAGE RESTRICTIONS

Websites need to have usable aspects in order to make customers comfortable. This might include ability to bookmark the page, copying the website link, printing options, emailing the link, etc.

AVOIDING DUPLICATES

As the internet is filled with uncountable websites, it should be of prime importance that your website does not mimic the competitors. If the themes, fonts, widgets etc are too similar to any other well established website, customers might not find anything new or interesting.

PREPARING FOR AN UPGRADE

When a website is initially designed, the developers must keep in mind that in a certain period of time, the website will need to be upgraded. This is because, due to programming issues, many websites break down after an upgrade and cease to stop functioning.

HIGHLIGHTING IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Often a lack of underlining important information concerning the overall subject of the website can have a negative effect on the visitors and too much struggle to find the core purpose of the site will discourage repeat exposure.

LENGTHY PROCEDURE

Registering domain names, taking permission to feature contents, acquiring trademarks or copyrights for websites can be a lengthy process, slowing down the progress of site development. Often, a delay in one process might slow down all other processes as well.

CONTENT IS KEY

The biggest concern to website developers is to decide which type of content would be the most eye-catching to visitors, what kind of content will keep them engaged to the page and obtain higher page traffic.
